SUMMER VIDEO CAMP

Students got the chance to be part of shoots at a local television station where they delivered original commercials, monologues, and improvisational scenes to be included in a variety show. At the first shoot, the station director complimented the students on their talent and preparation. Good Job!

WE'RE FAMOUS, TOO! As an added bonus, the TV station made three additional "Star Potential" special programs using only Star Potential students' performances.

Q: What is the largest frustration in pursuing modeling or acting?

A. Not sure who to trust or what's right for you.

WHY USE A CONSULTANT?

Guidance every step of the way from someone who has been there already.

Jump-start your career by learning information in a hour that usually takes years to acquire.

SAVE MONEY! Around every corner in this industry lurks someone "with a gimmick." The amount spent in an hour consultation could literally save you thousands of dollars by determining what is exactly right FOR YOU. Is it time for photos? Ask. How about that $5,000 convention? Ask.

Consulting is where you can get individual answers based on your goals and desires from someone who has been there and knows the pitfalls.

Suzanne is now consulting to give you more personalized service.

Suzanne teaches acting class for producers at local television station, and then is invited to be interviewed on television by one of the producers.

ARE YOU "MODEL" MATERIAL?

If you have determination, a willingness to learn and are eager to succeed, you can make it as a model. You just have to find your niche, whether it's fashion or commercial.

TIP OF THE MONTH:

Simple diet tip: If it comes in a cellophane package or cardboard box, don't eat it. Because these foods have been processed to the point they do not require canning, freezing or refrigeration, they are loaded with preservatives and offer little food value. Instead, sticking to whole, unprocessed foods can help alleviate too much sugar, fat, salt and other "nasties" that can contribute to weight gain and, more importantly, PUFFY faces.

For a well-balanced, professional diet that specifically addresses the connection between diet and aging, read The Perricone Prescription, by Nicholas Perricone, MD. He has done much research and has come up with a diet that maintains young-looking skin and maximum health.

(Note: Star Potential is not a nutrition facility. Check with your doctor before administering any "Diet Tip.")

TESTIMONIALS:

"We can use these tips the rest of our lives." K.H.

"Suzanne establishes a confidence building environment. I walk out of her class feeling I can conquer the world." M.M.

"Suzanne has an uncanny way of bringing out our best on-camera personality." A.S.

"This is the best thing that's ever happened to my granddaughter." L.M.

REFERRAL SERVICE:

Networking for the students is paying off. People are calling looking for talent (knock on wood.) To maintain a professional standard, students must meet minimum requirements to be placed in the "referral bin."

Attend one class a year to show commitment and perseverance.

A DAY IN THE LIFE...

By Suzanne

What is it like to win your first BIG audition?

I walk up the stairs at the casting agency to find a room FULL of candidates (who all look like ME!) After signing in, I'm given a script to review and practice. My mind isn't on the script, though. I can't stop thinking about the room full of people. Are they better than I am? The woman across the room gives me a polite, but insincere smile. Does she know something I don't? What am I doing here? I just feel that I don't have a chance. I glance over to the desk and see a video tap labeled, "Auditions, tape 5" and I hear someone next to me say, "This is the second day of auditions. They must be seeing a TON of people." So I think to myself, "I simply don't have a chance." Well, something inside lets go, my muscles relax and my heart slows, for a moment. I can now set my mind back on the script and focus to rehearse. I still want to do my best, but now the pressure's off.

I'd been watching people come and go inside "THE ROOM" without cause for any ambulances, so now that it's my turn, I feel confident I'd live as well, although my knees are still shaky. Inside the room, the script comes out flawlessly. They ask me to improvise. Sure, why not? I do the improv, and before I know it, they thank me and I'm out the door.

The next day, my agent calls to say that I got a callback, and I'm in shock. What? How can that be? There must have been 500+ people going out for that gig. I pinch myself and decide I am, indeed, awake. The second audition is a week away and I'm not sure my nerves will make it.

As I approach the casting agency a week later, still in shock, my legs start to wobble and I feel myself in a trance. Is this for real? Am I really getting a callback on a national commercial?

I'm back in the audition room, and greeted warmly. Again, I focus on the moment, and in a blink, the moment is over and I'm on my way home. As I drive, I shake my cell phone and say, "Ring, you miserable phone, will you ring?" Just then, yes, you guessed it, it rings. Caller ID shows my agent. My heart drops as I quickly answer, "Yes, please say YES!" I can tell my agent pauses for a moment to smile before she says, "Congratulations, you're booked!"

MORE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: Why do I need an agent and how do I get one?

A: Having the protection of an experienced agent is vital when negotiating large contracts. The agent knows what to ask for and why you deserve it. In the beginning, an agent can offer some advice and guidance as well. Remember, though, that the agent is very busy trying to get you work. So, he or she may have only limited time to answer questions.

The route to getting an agent starts with knowing that you want to be a part of this industry and are willing to get some information and training. Typically, when an agent expresses an interest, you are then asked to perform a monologue, cold read and/or commercial for that agent in an interview. Obtaining an agent can be competitive, but it's possible when you take the right steps. Showing that you are well prepared and ready to "get out there" is desirable and can win you favor over another candidate who "just came in off the street" unprepared.
